Mr Venu Bhamidi completed medical school in Queensland, Australia before relocating to be with his family in Perth where he started his surgical training.
He commenced sub-specialty training in vascular surgery there, following which he spent two years in Auckland. He relocated to Melbourne where he completed his specialty training before doing a fellowship in Toronto General Hospital, Canada.
He returned to Auckland in 2014 to commence practice as a Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon in Auckland City Hospital. He was also appointed as a Senior Lecturer (Hon) at the University of Auckland in 2014.
Venu consults at Ascot Hospital (Remuera) as well as running satellite clinics in North Shore, Silverdale and Warkworth. He has operating rights at Ascot Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Intra.
He has a particular sub-specialty interest in diabetic peripheral arterial and foot disease and is the Clinical Lead of the ADHB Multi-Disciplinary Diabetic Foot Clinic which he runs along with his Endocrinology, Podiatry, Nursing colleagues. He is currently involved in setting up similar clinics in Waitemata and Northland DHBs.
He has published in numerous journals internationally and has a strong academic interest.
Venu specialises in all aspects of Vascular surgery including open surgery and endovascular therapies for aortic, upper and lower limb vascular disease as well as carotid surgery.
He is extremely passionate about all aspects of aortic aneurysm and peripheral arterial disease as well as Diabetic foot care including lower limb and foot soft tissue salvage/transfer procedures.
